Come and join our private tour of the ancient city of Portovenere. Our meeting point starts at the La Spezia railway station. From La Spezia, we will take a public boat (weather permitting, otherwise we will have to take a bus) to the ancient city of Portovenere. It is a city with hidden treasures highlighted by the breathtaking landscapes that are naturally designed by mother nature and humanity over time. Part of the tour we will visit the Castello dei Doria, the Gothic church of San Pietro, the medieval convent of Le Grazie, the Romanesque church of San Lorenzo and the remains of the Roman villas of the first century. The city itself is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, rocky horizons and a crystal clear sea. Boat ride in the Gulf of Poets

The imposing cliffs, caves and fortresses of this splendid stretch of coast were loved by numerous poets and writers such as Byron and Shelley.
Cave of Byron
The Byron cave is named after an event in which the English poet Lord Byron swam across Portovenere bay to visit another poet, Shelley. The beautiful inlet is located at the end of the Protovenere promontory, right under the 13th century Gothic church of San Pietro. The view to the Byron Cave highlights the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea. The Byron Cup, the swimming challenge is held every year to commemorate Byron’s legendary action.
